On 1st December, the Embassy held the launching ceremony of the Chinese Government Scholarship with the Ministry of Education of Kiribati. The launching was witnessed by H.E. President Taneti Maamau and First Lady Teiraeng Maamau, Hon. Deputy Speaker Ioteba Redfern, Hon. Minister Alexander Teabo and other Hon. Ministers and Hon. MPs, Church leaders, mayors and many other distinguished guests. This marks the new milestone of China-Kiribati education cooperation.
Ambassador Tang said, Chinese government is glad to provide 10 scholarships to Kiribati students every year through bilateral and looks forward to the applications from talented Kiribati people. The Chinese nation has fostered a splendid civilization of over 5000 years. China is a peaceful, open and friendly nation. Kiribati students studying in China will enjoy excellent academic environment and condition, warm hospitality and enriched cultural experience as well as rapid development and convenient life. Education is one of the priorities of China-Kiribati relations. The Chinese side is actively conducting cooperation like promoting Chinese culture and language, vocational education and agricultural training. The Amb also announced the launching of the Chinese Ambassador’s Awards for Kiribati Senior Secondary School students. More than 100 students will be awarded for their outstanding merits and significant progress. Youth are the future of the country. The Embassy is proud to provide Kiribati youth with platform and opportunities, share their joy for progress, and cheer for their success.
Hon. Minister Alexander said, it’s a great pleasure to formally launch the Chinese Government Scholarship and Chinese Ambassador’s Awards. Our education cooperation is in line with the KV20 and this government’s manifesto and conducive to enhance human capital. Kiribati values the partnership with China and appreciates the continuing assistance and support from the Chinese side. Education is everyone’s business.
