On May 13th, the 2025 "International Chinese Language Day" event, hosted by Chinese Embassy and co-organized by the Chinese language education team in Kiribati, was held at King George V High School in Kiribati. Charge d'Affaires ad Interim of Chinese Embassy, Zhao Jian and Deputy Secretary of Kiribati Ministry of Education, Iaoniman attended the event and delivered remarks. Over 200 participants joined the event, including officials from Kiribati Confucius Institute, Kiribati-China Friendship Association, and teachers and students from schools offering Chinese language courses.
In the remarks, Charge d'Affaires Zhao Jian noted that Chinese language carries the splendid 5,000-year history of Chinese civilization. Today, Chinese language is captivating the world with its unique charm. In recent years, Chinese education has been warmly welcomed in Kiribati, fully demonstratring Chinese has become an important bond connecting the hearts of the two countries.
Deputy Secretary Iaoniman expressed sincere gratitude to Chinese teachers and volunteers in Kiribati and stated that learning Chinese will open a brighter and more promising future for Kiribati students. Kiribati MOE will give continued support for the thriving development of Chinese education in Kiribati.
During the event, guests jointly participated in an initiation ceremony with cinnabar marking for students, a traditional Chinese ritual symbolizing the awakening of wisdom. Students from various schools performed colorful programs and attendees actively engaged in various Chinese cultural experience activities, creating a lively and harmonious atmosphere.
