On September 5th, the Chinese Embassy in Kiribati hosted a video reception for watching the V-Day Parade at the Kiribati Police Service Headquarters. H.E. Ambassador Zhou Limin delivered remarks. DCSR Mr. Reetaake, Acting ACPM Mr. Tom Redfern, Chief Commissioner of Kiribati Scouts Association Mr. Amon, and the Chinese Assisting Police Team in Kiribati, among others, attended the event.

Ambassador Zhou stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the global victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s return to the motherland. Eighty years ago, China halted the expansion of Japanese militarism in the Asia-Pacific region through immense national sacrifice, making a monumental historical contribution to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. A series of post-war documents with international legal effect clearly established China's sovereignty over Taiwan, forming part of the current international order. The war made the Chinese people deeply aware of the preciousness of peace and strengthened China's resolve to pursue the path of peaceful development. Today, eight decades later, we hold a grand military parade to demonstrate China's firm resolve to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its strong capacity to uphold world peace and security. China stands ready to join hands with Kiribati to jointly safeguard peace and defend justice.

DCSR Reetaake noted that today's commemoration is not only a parade of strength but also a remembrance of history. As we witness the parade, we become part of the struggles, the courage, and the unity that carried this great nation (PRC) through times of hardship, and we honor all who gave their lives for peace. Both Kiribati and China endured brutal aggression during World War II, and remembering the struggles of the past will help us move towards a future of peace and stability. We also acknowledge China's contributions for the world and its support for Kiribati and other Pacific countries. China's contributions reflect a vision of shared progress. Looking ahead, addressing common challenges requires cooperation, mutual respect, and partnership. By respecting history and hoping for the future, we can build a world of stability, opportunity, and shared destiny.

After watching the video, Ambassador Zhou and diplomats from the Embassy had cordial and friendly exchanges with the guests present.
