Charge d’Affaires ad Interim Zhao Jian Attends 2026 “International Chinese Language Day” Event

On April 10th, the 2026 “International Chinese Language Day” event, hosted by Chinese Embassy and co-organized by the Chinese language education team in Kiribati, was held at King George V High School in Kiribati. Charge d’Affaires ad Interim of Chinese Embassy, Zhao Jian and Hon. Minister of Education of Kiribati, Ruateki Tekaiara attended the event and delivered remarks. Over 200 participants joined the event, including Secretary and officials of the Ministry of Education, teachers and students from schools offering Chinese language courses.

In the remarks, Charge d’Affaires Zhao Jian noted that the global “Chinese language fever” has continued in recent years. It’s glad to see Chinese language education in Kiribati has achieved steady development with remarkable results in recent years. Hope more Kiribati students could learn the Chinese and become a bridge for people-to-people connectivity between China and Kiribati.

Hon. Minister Tekaiara delivered a speech and stressed that the Chinese language boasts a profound cultural heritage. Mastering the Chinese language will open the door for students to embrace China’s development. He reaffirmed the continued support for the promotion of Chinese language education in Kiribati, to deepen mutual trust and exchanges between the two countries.

During the event, students from various schools staged performances including Chinese songs and poetry recitations. Teachers and students took an active part in various Chinese cultural experience programs, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
