On 22 October 2026, the new Chinese Ambassador to Kiribati, H.E. Yao Fei, presented his Letter of Credence to Kiribati President H.E. Taneti Maamau.

Ambassador Yao conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Maamau, saying that as the new Chinese Ambassador to Kiribati, he stands ready to work shoulder to shoulder with the Kiribati government and friends from all sectors of society to fully implement the important agreement between the leaders of the two countries to continuously deepen China-Kiribati cooperation, benefiting the two peoples.

President Maamau welcomed Ambassador Yao on assuming his new post and asked him to convey his cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping. He said that Kiribati and China have always adhered to mutual respect and equal treatment, and that Kiribati firmly abides by the one-China policy. He thanked China for its selfless assistance and hoped that the two sides could work together to further advance bilateral relations. 

After the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Yao inspected the Kiribati Police Guard of Honor accompanied by Kiribati personnel.
